My leadership style combines coaching, accountability, and service. I lead with a clear focus on people, performance, and public value. My work centres on strengthening staff culture, deepening community connection, building strong municipal relationships, and advancing the library’s mission through practical, strategic change.
I believe effective leadership starts with listening. I use active listening, clear expectations, and consistent communication to build trust with staff, community members, board members, and municipal partners. I value open dialogue and use feedback, engagement, and evidence to inform decisions and improve service.
Communication is a core leadership responsibility. I work to ensure that messages are clear, accessible, and aligned with purpose. Whether communicating service priorities, operational changes, or strategic direction, I focus on clarity, transparency, and follow-through.
Strong public libraries depend on strong relationships. I place high value on productive partnerships with municipalities and community leaders. Through regular dialogue, shared planning, and a clear articulation of library impact, I work to align library service with broader community priorities. I use both data and lived community outcomes to demonstrate the library’s role in literacy, belonging, access, and local quality of life.
I also lead with a strong operational lens. Strategy must translate into action. I support long-term planning, thoughtful service design, responsible resource use, and continuous improvement. This includes modernising systems, improving access, strengthening service delivery, and investing in staff development so teams are equipped to meet changing community needs.
Public librarianship is an evolving profession. It requires leaders who are adaptive, grounded, and community-focused. I see the library as both a trusted public institution and an active civic partner. My role is to help position it for long-term relevance, strong public trust, and meaningful impact.
